Concarneau’s beaches

Many beaches surround our campsite in Concarneau Le Cabellou-Plage in south Finistère. The nearest, the charming Plage de la Belle Etoile, is just in front of the campsite and is around 400 meters long.

In Concarneau, famous for its “ville-close” and for its miles of coastline of fine sand and translucent waters, you’ll also find the beaches of Grand Large, Porzou, Rödel, Dames, Cornouaille, Sables Blancs and Grêve de Kernous.

Here are a few details on our selection of the most beautiful beaches in Concarneau that you can enjoy during a weekend ora week in Concarneau.

La Belle Etoile beach

Located on the Cabellou peninsula, La Belle Étoile beach stretches over 500 meters of fine sand. There are small dunes and numerous rocks, much sought-after for shore fishing. Parking is available close to the beach.

Grand Large beach

Located to the south of Concarneau, on the Cabellou peninsula, the Grand Large beach offers a very special environment, with alternating rocky areas and wide sandbanks. In fact, you’ll find numerous coves of varying widths all along the corniche. Access is possible for people with reduced mobility.

Sables Blancs beach

Plage des Sables Blancs is Concarneau’s most famous and accessible beach. A family beach par excellence, this stretch of clear, sandy water is very popular with holidaymakers. The beach is surrounded by villas and stretches remarkably well between two rocky points.
In summer, it’s a popular spot for paddleboarding, kayaking, catamaran sailing and windsurfing. What’s more, the Sables Blancs beach guarantees supervised bathing all summer long, and facilities have been adapted for people with reduced mobility.

La plage des Dames

Plage des Dames stretches along Boulevard Katerine Wylie, overlooked by beautiful Belle Époque villas. A family beach par excellence, it features small rock pools that are a delight for the little ones. What’s more, it offers an exceptional panorama of the Bay of Concarneau.

Porzou beach

The Porzou beach is a favorite meeting place for residents of the Lanriec and Douric ar Zin districts. Surrounded by pine trees, the beach is mainly used by families. At high tide, a bathing cabin, a vestige of the presence of the de Lonlay family, owners of the area during the last century, gives the illusion of a fortress taken over by the ocean.

Rödel beach

Rödel beach is a so-called city beach, located just beyond the Nul quay. It takes its name from the Rödel fish canning factory, which was demolished to make way for the l’Atlantide residence.

Cornouaille beach

Located to the west of Concarneau harbor, Cornouaille beach is unavoidably one of Concarneau’s most beautiful beaches. Here, you can swim in crystal-clear waters and watch the traffic of fishing boats.

Kernous beach

Discreet and well-preserved, Kernous beach is one of Concarneau’s most popular beaches. To get there, you have to earn your way: it’s a 30-minute walk. Set in an unspoilt, wooded environment, this deep cove is characterized by its fine sand. It also offers a splendid view of Cap Coz beach and the Beg-Meil semaphore.

To admire the beaches of Concarneau and the surrounding area, we invite you to follow the GR34 coastal path, the most famous in Finistère. If you have the time, don’t hesitate to visit the magnificent Glénan archipelago, with its Caribbean-style beaches. An excursion not to be missed! We also recommend a visit to the beautiful beaches of Pointe Trévignon, in the commune of Trégunc, which borders Concarneau.
