The city of painters
The fame of the many artists such as Paul Gauguin who lived in Pont-Aven gave rise to the village’s nickname: cité des peintres (city of painters). The Pont-Aven school also welcomed Mogëns Ballin, Émile Bernard, Ernest Ponthier de Chamaillard, Émile Dezaunay, Charles Filiger, Meyer de Haan, Émile Jourdan…
